Post-op Instructions
Post-operative instructions vary by procedure, repair type, medications, and individual recovery factors. Use StackChat to help find the current instructions that fit your surgery.
Why instructions vary
- A rotator cuff repair, meniscus procedure, fracture fixation, and shoulder replacement do not share one universal recovery plan
- Restrictions depend on what was repaired, tissue quality, and surgeon-specific instructions
- Static protocol copies can become outdated, so StackChat should be the first place to look
How to use StackChat
- Select the prompt that best matches your question
- Include your procedure name and surgery date if you know them
- Follow the specific instructions you were given at discharge or in clinic
General safety reminders
- Keep dressings, medications, activity restrictions, and follow-up instructions aligned with your discharge paperwork
- Do not change weight-bearing, sling, brace, or therapy restrictions without guidance
- If instructions conflict, call the office for clarification
When to call
- Fever, worsening redness, drainage, chest pain, shortness of breath, calf pain, uncontrolled pain, new numbness, or a concern that feels urgent should be addressed promptly
- For emergencies, call 911 or go to the emergency department
Important note
Patient resources are educational. Always follow the specific instructions you received from Dr. Fisher, your surgical team, and your physical therapist. For urgent symptoms or emergencies, call 911 or seek emergency care.
